Welcome to Sandra Rizk Research Lab
Our research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer progression and exploring novel therapeutic strategies. We are particularly interested in the anticancer potential of natural products and plant-derived compounds. Through in vitro approaches, we aim to identify bioactive molecules that can contribute to cancer prevention and treatment.
Professor of Biology
Associate Dean, School of Arts and SciencesLebanese American University
Dr. Rizk plays an active role in advancing academic development and student engagement as she previously served as Assistant Dean (2012–2014) and Founding Director of the Honors and Freshman Programs (2014–2019) while currently being the Associate Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.
She is a recipient of the LAU Teaching Excellence Award (2017–2018), recognizing her outstanding commitment to teaching and student mentorship.
Her current research interests include intracellular trafficking, with a focus on the role of glycosylation in the intracellular processing and membrane association of glycoproteins, as well as the identification of biomarkers for lysosomal storage diseases. She is also engaged in cancer chemoprevention research, investigating food-derived compounds with potential anti-tumor activity, and in nutrition-related studies examining the relationships between body composition, body image perception, dietary habits, and physical activity among university students.

Thymol |
We investigate the anticancer potential of thymol in ovarian cancer cells and evaluate its combination effects with carvacrol, a standard chemotherapeutic agent, to assess possible synergistic activity. |
Flaxseeds |
We study enterolactone derived from flaxseed in combination with doxorubicin in SKOV-3 ovarian cancer cells, using both computational and in vitro approaches to evaluate its potential to enhance drug sensitivity. |
Vitamin E |
This project explores the effects of Vitamin E on breast and ovarian cancer cells, focusing on its role in inducing cell death mechanisms and inhibiting cancer cell migration in vitro. |
